Curriculum

Our Own English High School Abu Dhabi offers a curriculum designed and developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi. The curriculum prepares student for an internal examination by the council of CBSE affiliated schools in the Gulf at the end of Grade 9 and for the All India Secondary Schools Examination conducted by the CBSE, New Delhi, at the end of Grade 10.

The medium of instruction is English. Particular emphasis is laid on acquiring a knowledge of Arabic and on the rich cultural heritage of the United Arab Emirates. Arabic is compulsory for all and Islamic Studies / Quran for Muslim students only. Arabic students from Arab countries are offered Higher Arabic till Grade 6. Other languages offered are Hindi, Malayalam, French and Urdu is offered only till Grade 7.

Computer Studies is offered from Grade I upwards and provides students with the skills vital in this age of Information and Communication Technology.

Assessments
KG 1 and KG 2 students are continually observed and monitored on an ongoing basis, taking into account the process of learning and the results achieved. The data gathered and reported on each child reflects actual abilities, records progress made over a period of time and measures child's achievement in relation to the learning expectations.

For Grades 1 and 2, on going assessment is held in each term culminating in the final examination in the month of March.

Progress of Grades 3 to 8 students is monitored by respective subject teachers. At the end of every unit, an assessment is conducted by the subject teacher. Feedback on this assessment is intended to help individual students to fill in the gaps in learning. Parents are requested to go through this feed back and help the child to catch up with progression. In addition to the unit tests, half yearly and final examination is also held. This continuous assessment is done through assessment sheets, class assignments, home assignments, project and oral tests.

Continuous assessments with unit tests continue in Grades 9 and 10. Subject teachers administer two internal assessment tests spaced over the academic year in the form of projects and slip tests. Half yearly examination is held in October. The first rehearsal examination is held in Jan followed by the second rehearsal examination in February. The Sahodaya examination for Grade 9 and CBSE Grade 10 examinations is held in March.
